How to read this figure

GDP per capita measures economic output per person, not personal wealth or living standards. It can be substantially inflated where a large share of output is generated by multinational corporations or by cross-border workers who are not counted in the resident population. Ireland's figure, for example, is raised by multinational profit-shifting — its own statistics office reports a modified measure (GNI*) for this reason — and Luxembourg's by commuters who contribute to GDP but live abroad. For comparing living standards, GDP per capita at purchasing power parity (PPP) is more reliable.

Analysis# Namibia GDP per Capita Namibia's GDP per capita reached 5,182.21 USD in 2026, recovering from a significant downturn but remaining 13.7% below its 2012 peak of 6,009.22 USD. Since 1989, the metric has grown 193.5%, rising from 1,765.61 USD—demonstrating substantial long-term economic progress despite recent volatility. The country has more than tripled its per capita output over this four-decade period, positioning it among Africa's middle-income economies. The 2020 pandemic triggered a sharp contraction to 3,937.67 USD, Namibia's lowest point in the recent data range. Recovery began in 2021 and has continued through 2026, with per capita GDP climbing steadily from the trough. Current projections suggest continued gradual growth, indicating the economy is moving past pandemic pressures and stabilizing toward pre-crisis levels.
