The eleventh South American Championship was held in Lima, Peru, from 30 October to 27 November 1927. Four nations — Argentina, Bolivia, Peru, and Uruguay — competed. It marked Peru's first participation in the tournament. Argentina's squad traveled by rail to Valparaíso, Chile, then sailed to Callao, arriving in Lima after eight days.
Argentina and Uruguay, having performed sufficiently in the tournament, were subsequently invited to participate in the football competition at the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam. The event also marked a milestone for Peruvian football, as the country made its debut in South America's premier international football competition.
