The 1975–76 UEFA Cup brought together Europe's top club sides outside the European Cup and Cup Winners' Cup. Liverpool and Club Brugge both excelled domestically and continentally, earning their places in the two-legged final as the strongest sides in their respective national leagues that season.
The final was contested over two legs: the first at Anfield in Liverpool and the second at the Olympiastadion in Bruges. Liverpool defeated Club Brugge by an aggregate score of 4–3 to win the UEFA Cup for the second time. It was also the first UEFA Cup final to feature two clubs that had won their domestic league championship in the same season.
Liverpool's victory cemented their status as one of Europe's dominant clubs in the mid-1970s. Club Brugge became the first Belgian team to reach a UEFA Cup final, marking a milestone for Belgian football. Anfield hosted its last major European club final at this level, a distinction the stadium would not repeat in the three premier European competitions.
