On 25 May 2011, near the village of Do Ab in Nuristan province, the coalition patrol was ambushed by an estimated 400–500 Taliban fighters. The outnumbered force called in close air support and successfully repelled the attack, inflicting approximately 270 enemy killed in action while sustaining no coalition casualties.
The engagement resulted in significant Taliban losses with no coalition fatalities. Three Purple Hearts, one Silver Star, and one Bronze Star with Valor were awarded to participants, recognizing the actions of TACP operators and other personnel under heavy fire.
