Cause

The Delhi Sultanate under Jalal-ud-din Khalji launched a military expedition against the Kingdom of Ranthambore in March 1291, seeking to assert dominance over the Rajput-held territories and capture the strategically significant city of Jhain.

Event

A Delhi army of roughly 1,000 men engaged and defeated a Ranthambore force of approximately 10,000. The Ranthambore commander Gurdan Saini and most of his Rajput fighters were killed in the battle, and Jalal-ud-din Khalji marched through Jhain following the victory.

Consequence

After the Delhi forces prevailed, the remaining Rajput defenders evacuated Jhain's fort and retreated, leaving the city under Delhi Sultanate control and demonstrating the military reach of Khalji power into Rajput territory.
