Cause

Sun Quan sought to expand his territorial control by seizing Jiangxia Commandery, a strategically positioned region held by the rival warlord Liu Biao and defended by his general Huang Zu. The ambition to dominate the middle Yangtze region drove Sun Quan to launch a military campaign against the commandery.

Event

Sun Quan's forces attacked Jiangxia Commandery in 203 CE during the late Eastern Han dynasty. Despite Huang Zu retreating, Sun Quan's army was unable to fully capture or hold the commandery, rendering the engagement inconclusive for both sides.

Consequence
