During the Second Battle of Naktong Bulge, KPA forces broke through the US 2nd Infantry Division's lines along the Naktong River. Exploiting this breach, the KPA 4th and 9th Divisions advanced toward Yongsan, a village serving as a critical gateway to UN supply and reinforcement routes for the Pusan Perimeter.
KPA forces briefly captured Yongsan after splitting the 2nd Infantry Division in two. Lieutenant General Walton Walker responded by committing the US Marine Corps 1st Provisional Marine Brigade alongside Army units to counterattack. Over three days of intense combat, UN forces drove the KPA out of Yongsan and inflicted severe damage on both attacking divisions.
The recapture of Yongsan secured UN lines of supply and reinforcement critical to holding the Pusan Perimeter. The destruction of the two KPA divisions was a decisive step toward the broader UN victory at the Naktong Bulge, stabilizing the defensive perimeter ahead of the Inchon landing.
