In the early 1960s, Turkey lacked a major dedicated film festival to celebrate and promote domestic cinema. Cultural institutions sought to establish a recurring platform in Antalya that would recognise Turkish filmmaking talent and foster a national film culture on an annual basis.
The Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival has been held annually in Antalya, Turkey since 1963. Organised since 2009 solely by AKSAV, the festival takes place each autumn at the Antalya Cultural Center and incorporates an international competitive section alongside its national programme.
The festival grew into Turkey's second most important film festival, providing a sustained platform for Turkish and international cinema. It has helped elevate Antalya's cultural profile and contributed to the broader development of the Turkish film industry over more than six decades.
