Biography

Brigitte Nielsen, born Gitte Nielsen on July 15, 1963, is a Danish actress, model, and singer who gained international fame in the 1980s for her roles in major Hollywood action films. She was born in Rødovre, Denmark, and became well-known in entertainment for her striking looks and high-profile relationships in the film industry.

Nielsen's big break came in 1985 with two key films: Red Sonja, where she played the lead warrior, and Rocky IV, where she played Ludmilla Drago, the wife of Ivan Drago. Her role in Rocky IV led to a personal relationship with Sylvester Stallone, the film's star and director, and they got married in December 1985. The couple worked together again in the 1986 action film Cobra, with Nielsen as the female lead opposite Stallone.

After divorcing Stallone in 1987, Nielsen kept up her acting career, taking on a major role as Karla Fry, the main villain in Beverly Hills Cop II. She later became successful in European cinema, especially for her role as the Black Witch in the Italian fantasy TV film series Fantaghirò in the 1990s. This role was one of her most recognizable in Europe, showing her talent in playing complicated villainous roles.

As her Hollywood career changed, Nielsen moved into B-movies and reality TV. She became a regular on various reality and talk shows, often sharing details of her personal life and relationships. Over the years, she has been married five times: to Kasper Winding, Sylvester Stallone, Sebastian Copeland, Raoul Meyer, and Mattia Dessì. In 2018, Nielsen made a return to the Rocky series after more than thirty years, appearing in Creed II, marking a significant comeback to major studio films.

Before Fame

Growing up in Rødovre, a suburb of Copenhagen, Nielsen started her career in modeling before moving into acting. She collaborated with well-known photographers Greg Gorman and Helmut Newton, making a name for herself in fashion before Hollywood called. Her modeling background helped launch her career in the global entertainment scene.

The 1980s were the peak years for action movies, with strong heroes and exotic settings filling theaters. Nielsen's striking looks and European roots made her a perfect fit for the fantasy and action movies that were booming at the time, paving the way for her big break in American films.
