Biography
Nicole Evangeline Lilly was born on August 3, 1979, in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, Canada. She went to W. J. Mouat Secondary School and later attended the University of British Columbia. Before joining the entertainment industry, Lilly worked as a flight attendant and did some modeling, experiences that influenced her down-to-earth approach to fame.
Lilly's big break came in 2004 when she was cast as Kate Austen in the ABC drama series Lost, even though she didn't have much acting experience. The role brought her international fame and made her a well-known TV actress. Her performance as the complex character Kate won her critical praise and several award nominations, including six Saturn Award nominations for Best Actress on Television and a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Drama Series. The show's popularity and loyal fan base made Lilly a household name during its six seasons from 2004 to 2010.
After Lost, Lilly moved to film roles, appearing in movies like The Hurt Locker (2008) and Real Steel (2011). Her career took off again when she joined Peter Jackson's The Hobbit series, playing the elf warrior Tauriel in The Desolation of Smaug (2013) and The Battle of the Five Armies (2014). This role showed her ability to take on action scenes and fantasy roles, broadening her acting skills.
Lilly's most notable recent work is in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where she plays Hope van Dyne, also known as the Wasp. Her character first appeared in Ant-Man (2015) and later became a superhero in her own right in Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018), making her one of the few female characters to have a lead role in a Marvel film. Besides acting, Lilly has ventured into writing, creating The Squickerwonkers, a children's book series that shows her creative interests beyond acting.
Before Fame
Lilly was born and grew up in Alberta, Canada. She went to the University of British Columbia without any specific plan to become an actress. At first, she worked as a flight attendant, which allowed her to meet different people and experience various cultures, while also providing a steady income. She also tried her hand at modeling, which gave her some insight into the entertainment industry.
Lilly's move into acting happened by chance when a talent scout noticed her while she was walking in Kelowna, British Columbia. Her natural beauty and presence caught the scout's attention, leading to her first auditions. Even without formal acting training, her ability to naturally express complex emotions made her a great fit for TV roles during the early 2000s, a time when serialized dramas were becoming popular.
