Biography
Kim Ji-soo, known as Jisoo, was born on January 3, 1995, in Gunpo, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. She became a well-known figure in global entertainment as the oldest member and visual of the successful K-pop girl group BLACKPINK, created by YG Entertainment in 2016. Known for her unique voice and stage presence, Jisoo quickly gained recognition as one of the key figures in the spread of Korean pop culture to Western markets.
As part of BLACKPINK, Jisoo helped the group rise to worldwide fame. Alongside Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa, they shattered many records and became the first K-pop girl group to perform at major Western music events like Coachella. Their music videos often reached hundreds of millions of views, with songs like "DDU-DU DDU-DU" and "How You Like That" becoming worldwide hits. Jisoo's role often included leading interviews in Korean and improving her English for international fans.
Outside of music, Jisoo ventured into acting, debuting as a lead in the JTBC drama "Snowdrop" in 2021. Her role as Eun Young-ro, a university student during South Korea's democratization in 1987, showed her range as a performer and marked her move from idol to serious actress. The part involved deep emotional scenes and handling sensitive historical themes, highlighting her growth as an artist beyond just music.
Jisoo has made a mark in the fashion world too, serving as a global ambassador for Dior and often attending high-profile fashion events. Her influence is strong on social media, where she has millions of followers and sets trends in beauty and style. Her role in popular culture underscores the growing impact of K-pop and Korean artists globally.
Before Fame
Jisoo grew up in Gunpo before moving to Seoul to start her entertainment career. She went to the School of Performing Arts Seoul, which has turned out many successful Korean entertainers. Her journey to fame began when she was recruited by YG Entertainment as a trainee, where she spent years honing her singing, dancing, and performance skills.
While training, Jisoo appeared in music videos for well-known YG artists like G-Dragon and Hi Suhyun, giving her early exposure to the entertainment industry. This happened at the same time as K-pop was becoming more popular worldwide, thanks to social media and streaming services making Korean music easier to access globally. This set the stage for groups like BLACKPINK to reach unprecedented global success.
