Biography

Neve Adrianne Campbell was born on October 3, 1973, in Guelph, Ontario, Canada. She studied at several schools, including Canada's National Ballet School, where she built her foundation in performing arts. She also attended John F. Ross Collegiate Vocational Institute, Forest Hill Collegiate Institute, and Vaughan Road Academy. Her ballet training influenced her approach to movement in her film roles.

Campbell started with minor TV appearances before landing starring roles in the Canadian drama series Catwalk from 1992 to 1993 and the TV movie The Canterville Ghost in 1996. Her big break came in the U.S. when she was cast as Julia Salinger in the Fox teen drama series Party of Five, which aired from 1994 to 2000. This role made her a well-known young actress in American TV and led to film opportunities.

In 1996, Campbell's career shifted with two major horror films. She starred as Sidney Prescott in Wes Craven's Scream, a role that became a significant part of her career, making her a key figure in the horror genre. That same year, she appeared in The Craft, further establishing her as a scream queen. Scream's success led to a franchise, with Campbell returning for several sequels, except for the sixth one.

From the late 1990s to the early 2000s, Campbell took on different film roles, including the thriller Wild Things (1998) and the drama Panic (2000). She showcased her creative side with The Company (2003), a drama about ballet that she wrote and produced, gaining praise for her performance and her work behind the scenes. Unsatisfied with film roles, she shifted to television in the late 2000s, appearing in shows like Medium, The Philanthropist, and the miniseries Titanic: Blood and Steel.

Recently, Campbell has balanced film and TV roles, coming back to mainstream movies with the action thriller Skyscraper (2018) alongside Dwayne Johnson. She continues to take on varied roles, appearing in the biographical drama Clouds (2020), the political thriller series House of Cards (2016-2017), and starring in the crime drama series The Lincoln Lawyer (2022-present). Throughout her career, she has earned recognition, including Saturn Awards and MTV Movie & TV Awards, and she is married to John Light.

Before Fame

Growing up in Ontario, Campbell first got into performing arts through Canada's National Ballet School, where she learned discipline and physical awareness, shaping her future acting style. Her ballet background gave her a strong base in movement and expression, which came in handy when she moved into acting.

In the early 1990s, Canadian television offered chances for young actors to hone their skills. Campbell made the most of this by taking a role in the drama series Catwalk. During this time, Canadian and American entertainment industries were collaborating more, which allowed talented actors like Campbell to move into bigger markets and take on more prominent roles in American TV and movies.
