Biography
Preity G. Zinta, born on 31 January 1975 in Shimla, is an Indian actress and entrepreneur who became a well-known face in Bollywood during the 2000s. After studying at St. Bede's College in Shimla, where she got degrees in English honors and criminal psychology, Zinta joined the film industry in 1998, making her debut with Dil Se.., followed by Soldier in the same year. These early roles earned her the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut, recognizing her as a promising newcomer in Hindi cinema.
Zinta's career took off with her role as a teenage single mother in Kya Kehna (2000), showing her willingness to try unconventional characters. She continued to gain respect with strong performances in films like Chori Chori Chupke Chupke (2001), Dil Chahta Hai (2001), and Armaan (2003). Her role as Naina Catherine Kapur in Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003) won her the Filmfare Award for Best Actress, confirming her status as a leading actress of her generation.
The mid-2000s were the peak of Zinta's commercial success, with starring roles in back-to-back box office hits like Koi... Mil Gaya (2003) and Veer-Zaara (2004). She was especially noted for playing independent, modern Indian women in films like Salaam Namaste (2005) and Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (2006), both successful in domestic and international markets. Her screen presence often challenged cultural norms, giving her a unique spot in Bollywood.
Beyond acting, Zinta moved into entrepreneurship and sports ownership. In 2008, she became a co-owner of the Indian Premier League cricket team Punjab Kings, making her one of the few Bollywood stars to invest heavily in professional sports. She also started the production company PZNZ Media and later owned the South African T20 Global League cricket team Stellenbosch. After a break from acting, she tried to return with her self-produced film Ishkq in Paris (2013), although it didn't do well commercially. Zinta is married to Gene Goodenough and stays active with various business ventures while keeping her ties to the entertainment world.
