Victor Varconi, originally named Mihály Várkonyi, was born on March 31, 1891, in Kisvárda, Hungary. He was an actor whose career lasted from the silent film era to sound films and into television, making him one of the most enduring Hungarian-born performers in international cinema. He started on stage and in early Hungarian films, gaining a reputation that drew attention beyond Hungary.
