Strategic Narrative Overview
The conflict unfolded in two distinct phases. In the first phase, from 6 to 12 July 1998, Yugoslav forces launched a counterattack but were repelled, resulting in a KLA victory. A second operation was mounted from 10 to 17 August 1998, during which Yugoslav and Serbian forces gained the upper hand. Throughout the fighting, Serbian Police systematically destroyed all 284 houses in the village along with its mosque using bulldozers.
01 / The Origins
The Battle of Lođa took place within the broader Kosovo War, a conflict between the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and ethnic Albanian separatist forces seeking independence for Kosovo. The immediate trigger for the first engagement was the killing of two Yugoslav policemen patrolling the area near the village of Logjë, which prompted the Yugoslav Army to launch a counterattack against Kosovo Liberation Army and FARK fighters operating in the region.
03 / The Outcome
The second battle ended in a Yugoslav Army victory. The village of Logjë was left entirely razed, with every house and the mosque demolished by Serbian Police. The destruction of the settlement represented a complete displacement of the local population and the elimination of the village as a functional community, consistent with patterns of forced displacement documented across Kosovo during the 1998–1999 war.
