Strategic Narrative Overview
The JNA garrison broke out of the besieged Logorište barracks before the ZNG could force a surrender, evacuating with part of its stored equipment. JNA and SAO Krajina units advanced to lift blockades on multiple Karlovac-area garrisons. The heaviest fighting occurred in the Karlovac suburb of Turanj, the main axis of JNA advance, as ZNG forces attempted to contain the relief effort.
01 / The Origins
During the Croatian War of Independence, Croatian forces sought to neutralise Yugoslav People's Army (JNA) garrisons isolated across Croatia. As part of the broader Battle of the Barracks, the Croatian National Guard (ZNG) blockaded the JNA-held Logorište barracks east of Duga Resa and south of Karlovac, aiming to compel the garrison to surrender its weapons and ammunition.
03 / The Outcome
A ceasefire brokered in The Hague ended active fighting. Neither side achieved all its objectives: the JNA evacuated Logorište but Croatian defences held elsewhere. The ZNG occupied the vacated barracks and over the following week recovered the weapons and supplies the JNA had left behind, gaining materiel despite failing to prevent the garrison's escape.
