CONCACAF held its fourth regional football championship, hosted by Costa Rica in San José. Six nations qualified to compete in a round-robin format; a late application by Haiti was rejected before the tournament began. Defending champions Guatemala entered looking to retain the title they had previously won.
The tournament ran from 23 November to 8 December 1969, with six teams playing each other in a round-robin competition. Costa Rica, as host nation, clinched the championship by drawing 1–1 with defending champions Guatemala in the decisive final match. Mexico fielded players from a second-level league rather than its top-flight squad.
Costa Rica was crowned CONCACAF Champion for the second time, having previously won the title in 1963. The result reaffirmed the host nation's standing in regional football and continued the pattern of Central American nations dominating the confederation's early championship editions.
