The final was originally planned for Saint Petersburg, then shifted to Istanbul, but was relocated to Porto two weeks before the match so that a limited crowd of 14,110 could attend under COVID-19 pandemic protocols, which had previously forced the 2020 final to be held in Lisbon behind closed doors.
On 29 May 2021, Chelsea and Manchester City — both English clubs — met at the Estádio do Dragão in the third all-English Champions League final. Kai Havertz scored the sole goal late in the first half, and Chelsea held on to win 1–0, claiming their second UEFA Champions League title.
As champions, Chelsea earned the right to face Europa League winners Villarreal in the 2021 UEFA Super Cup and qualified for the 2021 FIFA Club World Cup, both of which they won. They also secured a place in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup through UEFA's champions pathway, which they likewise won.
