Following the Battle of Dongkou, the Wu general Jin Zong defected to Cao Wei and relocated north of the Yangtze River to the newly established Wei outpost at Qichun, prompting Sun Quan to respond militarily to suppress the rebellion and reassert control over the region.
Sun Quan dispatched He Qi to lead Mi Fang, Xianyu Dan, Liu Shao, and Hu Zong upriver against Qichun. Despite intense summer heat causing much of the Wu force to withdraw, He Qi exploited Jin Zong's relaxed guard, penetrated the Wei army, and captured the defector at the southern slopes of the Dabie Mountains.
The rebellion was quashed and Jin Zong was captured, reasserting Wu authority at Qichun and eliminating a Wei-backed foothold north of the Yangtze. The swift resolution demonstrated He Qi's tactical opportunism and reinforced Wu's defensive posture along its northern frontier during the Three Kingdoms period.
