Biography

Bekzod Makhamadzhonovich Abdurakhmonov was born on March 15, 1990, in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. He got into wrestling early on and pursued his athletic career internationally. Eventually, he moved to the United States for college competition. He attended Colby Community College, then transferred to Clarion University of Pennsylvania, where he stood out as one of the program's top wrestlers. His performances earned him All-American honors and a spot in the Clarion University Sports Hall of Fame.

On the international stage, Abdurakhmonov represented Uzbekistan in freestyle wrestling. He won the Asian Games gold medal twice, first in 2014 and again in 2018, making him one of the leading freestyle wrestlers in Asia during that decade. He also grabbed gold medals at the Asian Wrestling Championships in 2015 and 2017, proving his skill and technical expertise in major continental competitions.

Abdurakhmonov reached the peak of global sports at the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics, held in 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic, where he won a bronze medal in freestyle wrestling. This was a significant achievement, placing him among the most decorated wrestlers in Uzbekistan's sports history. His Olympic medal was a key moment in both his career and for wrestling in Uzbekistan.

Besides wrestling, Abdurakhmonov has been involved in mixed martial arts. He is married to Nigora Tursunkulova. After his competitive career, he moved into coaching and is currently an assistant wrestling coach at Harvard University, bringing his international expertise and experience to this leading academic institution in the United States.
