Biography

Céline Marie Claudette Dion was born on March 30, 1968, in Charlemagne, Quebec, into a big musical family. She first became known as a teen star in the French-speaking world in Canada during the 1980s, putting out eight French-language albums before she became an international star. Her big breakthrough came in 1988 when she won the Eurovision Song Contest for Switzerland with "Ne partez pas sans moi." This success kickstarted her career in Europe and set her up as a global performer.

Dion started her English-language career in the early 1990s and found massive commercial success with albums such as The Colour of My Love (1993), Falling into You (1996), and Let's Talk About Love (1997). These albums produced many hit singles including "The Power of Love," "Because You Loved Me," and "My Heart Will Go On," which became the theme song for the 1997 movie Titanic and one of the best-selling singles ever. Her strong, technically skilled vocals and emotional delivery earned her the nickname "Queen of Power Ballads."

Throughout her career, Dion continued to release French albums along with her English ones. Her 1995 French album D'eux became the best-selling French-language album ever. She also earned a strong reputation as a live performer, with her Las Vegas residency A New Day... (2003-2007) becoming the top-grossing concert residency at the time. Her world tours, like the Let's Talk About Love World Tour and Taking Chances World Tour, were among the highest-earning concert tours of those decades.

On a personal level, Dion's life was closely connected to her manager René Angélil, whom she married in 1994. Angélil discovered her talent when she was twelve and managed her career until his passing in 2016. Dion has sold over 200 million records worldwide, making her the best-selling Canadian recording artist and the top-selling French-language artist ever. Her many awards include being named a Companion of the Order of Canada, receiving the Knight of the Legion of Honour from France, and earning a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Before Fame

Céline Dion, born into a large family of fourteen children in the small town of Charlemagne, Quebec, was raised in a home where music was an everyday part of life. Her parents, Adhémar and Thérèse Dion, ran a small piano bar, and all the children were involved in music. Dion sang publicly for the first time at the age of five at her brother's wedding, showing off the vocal talent that would define her career.

When she was twelve, Dion recorded a demo tape of a song written by her mother and brother and sent it to music manager René Angélil. Angélil was so impressed by her voice that he mortgaged his home to fund her first album. With his help, she started performing throughout Quebec and quickly became a teenage star in French-speaking Canada, winning many talent competitions and releasing her first album "La voix du bon Dieu" in 1981 when she was just thirteen.
