Biography
Dominic Haakon Myrtvedt Purcell was born on February 17, 1970, in Wallasey, England. He later moved to Australia, where he built his acting career. He went to St Dominic's College in Penrith and then trained at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, known for producing many film and TV performers.
Purcell's big break was playing Lincoln Burrows in the Fox series Prison Break, which aired from 2005 to 2009 and came back in 2017. His role as a wrongly convicted death row inmate became a key part of his career, making him well-known in TV drama. The show's global success helped boost his fame and led to more chances in TV and film.
Purcell further expanded his TV roles by joining the DC Comics universe. He played Mick Rory, or Heat Wave, in series like The Flash (2014-2016) and as a main character in Legends of Tomorrow (2016-2021). This role showed his ability to handle different genres, from drama to sci-fi adventure. His work in the Arrowverse made him a familiar face in today's TV scene.
In movies, Purcell played the vampire Drake in Blade: Trinity (2004) with Wesley Snipes and Jessica Biel. He also appeared in Three Way as Lewis "Lew" Brookbank, highlighting his ability to take on various roles. Although his film career is not as extensive as his TV work, he has successfully moved between the two mediums.
Purcell's personal life made headlines in 2023 when he married Tish Cyrus, the former wife of Billy Ray Cyrus, in Malibu, California. This marriage made him the stepfather to well-known figures like Miley Cyrus and her siblings Brandi, Trace, and Noah Cyrus. He also has four children from his previous marriage, balancing family life with his entertainment career.
