Hema Malini Dharmendra Deol, born on October 16, 1948, in Ammankudi, Tamil Nadu, is an Indian actress, director, producer, dancer, and politician. She is a celebrated figure in Hindi cinema, widely known as Bollywood's "Dream Girl." She became one of the most popular and successful leading actresses in Hindi cinema, known for both comedic and dramatic roles during the 1970s and 1980s.

Malini started her film career in 1963 with the Tamil film Idhu Sathiyam before moving to Hindi cinema. Her first leading role was in Sapno Ka Saudagar (1968), marking the beginning of a career that has spanned over five decades. She often appeared opposite actor Dharmendra, with whom she developed both a professional and personal partnership, marrying him in 1980. Their on-screen chemistry was legendary in films like Sholay (1975), one of Indian cinema's most famous productions.

Her acting skills earned her critical acclaim, especially for her dual role in Seeta Aur Geeta (1972), which won her the Filmfare Award for Best Actress in 1973. Throughout her career, she received eleven Filmfare nominations and was later honored with the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 2000. Her notable films include Dream Girl (1977), Satte Pe Satta (1982), and Dil Aashna Hai (1992), showing her versatility across genres.

Apart from acting, Malini pursued film direction and production while continuing her classical dance training in Bharatanatyam. She was awarded the Padma Shri in 2000, India's fourth-highest civilian honor. She also entered politics, joining the Bharatiya Janata Party and serving in the Rajya Sabha from 2003 to 2009 and again from 2011 to 2012. Since 2014, she has represented the Mathura constituency in the Lok Sabha, blending her entertainment career with public service.

She has served as chairperson of the National Film Development Corporation and has received several honors, including the NTR National Award in 2013 and the SaMaPa Vitasta award in 2006 for her contributions to Indian culture and dance. Hema Malini, born in the small town of Ammankudi into a Tamil family, learned classical dance from a young age, especially Bharatanatyam. In the late 1960s, she began moving into Hindi cinema, just as Bollywood was in its golden age, expanding and looking for new talent.
