Biography
Iveta Roberti Mukuchyan was born on October 14, 1986, in Yerevan, then part of the Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic. When she was six, her family moved to Hamburg, Germany, where she grew up and went to school at Sankt-Ansgar-Schule. This international experience later shaped her multicultural approach to music and performance.
In 2009, Mukuchyan returned to Armenia and quickly gained attention by placing fifth in the fourth season of Hay Superstar, Armenia's top talent show. During this time, she also trained at the Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory, developing the skills that would support her career. Her bilingual abilities and international background helped her compete in The Voice of Germany in 2012, showing her adaptability in different markets.
Mukuchyan gained international fame when she represented Armenia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 with her song "LoveWave." She finished seventh in the final, one of Armenia's best Eurovision performances, establishing her as a key figure in the Armenian music scene. That year, she also made her acting debut in the comedy film "Run Away Or Get Married" and released her first EP, "IvaVerse."
Her career widened beyond performing when she joined the jury on the first season of Depi Evratesil in autumn 2016, the show choosing Armenia's Eurovision representatives. In 2017, her collaboration with Aram Mp3 on "Dashterov" won Song of the Year, leading to a full project that picked up the Collaboration of the Year award at the Armenian Europe Music Awards. She later released "Armenian Folk," a solo version of the Dashterov Project, on October 3, 2017, and appeared in the film "The Path of Our Dream."
Mukuchyan's accomplishments kept growing as she was named Best Female Singer of the Year at the 2018 Swallow Music Awards. Her international reach increased with awards at the 2020 Distinctive International Arab Festivals Awards in Dubai, UAE. In December 2022, she hosted the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Yerevan, highlighting her journey from contestant to leading industry figure in Armenia.
Before Fame
Growing up in Hamburg after leaving Armenia at age six, Mukuchyan was influenced by living between two cultures during the post-Soviet transition. Her family left coinciding with the economic and political changes following Armenia's 1991 independence, a common decision for many Armenian families seeking stability in Western Europe.
The early 2000s were a time of cultural growth in Armenia as the country found its place in the modern world. When Mukuchyan returned in 2009, she joined a music scene that was becoming more connected to international markets while keeping strong traditional ties. Her appearance on Hay Superstar was during the show's peak popularity, when such talent competitions were launching careers and shaping Armenia's modern music scene.
