Karikala Chola was a Tamil emperor from the Early Chola dynasty who ruled ancient Tamilakam from his capital at Uraiyur during the early Common Era. Historical records suggest his rule was sometime between 100-200 CE, although the exact dates are still debated by scholars. He was the most important ruler of the Early Chola period, turning the dynasty from a regional power into a major force across southern India and beyond.
Karikala's military campaigns expanded Chola influence well beyond traditional Tamil territories. His conquests included much of Tamilakam, parts of Andhra Pradesh, and even Sri Lanka, making the Cholas a formidable maritime and territorial power.
