Biography
Óscar Isaac Hernández Estrada, born on March 9, 1979, in Guatemala City, Guatemala, moved to the United States with his family as a baby. They settled in Miami, Florida. He went to Westminster Christian School and Santaluces Community High School, where he got interested in music and acting. As a teenager, he played in a punk band and acted in plays before attending Miami Dade College. He later got into Juilliard School in New York City, where he received classical training that shaped his career.
After finishing Juilliard, Isaac worked steadily as a character actor through the 2000s, taking supporting roles in various film and TV shows. His first big role was in the biblical drama The Nativity Story (2006) as Joseph. He gained recognition in 2009 by winning the AACTA Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for playing political leader José Ramos-Horta in the Australian film Balibo. He further built his reputation with supporting roles in Ridley Scott's Robin Hood (2010) and Nicolas Winding Refn's Drive (2011), showing he could enhance smaller parts effectively.
Isaac's big break came with the Coen Brothers' Inside Llewyn Davis (2013), playing a folk singer in New York City's Greenwich Village in the early 1960s. His portrayal of Marc Spector and Steven Grant in the Marvel Disney+ series Moon Knight (2022) won him the Saturn Award for Best Actor in a Streaming Presentation.
