Biography
Radoslav Lopašić (1835–1893) was a Croatian historian and topographer known for his detailed work on the history and geography of Croatia. Born on 20 May 1835 in Karlovac, then part of the Austrian Empire and now in modern-day Croatia, he was raised in a well-known local family. His father, Mirko Lopašić, was both a mayor and a city judge, which gave Radoslav an early understanding of public life and local governance. His mother's name was Magdalena Dobrilović.
Before Fame
Lopašić got his early education at the Karlovac Gymnasium, a well-known school in the area, before moving on to study law at the University of Zagreb. This legal training influenced his careful approach to research and documentation. After his studies, he worked in city administration, which gave him direct access to archival records and historical documents related to Croatian towns and regions. Being close to these primary sources helped steer his focus toward historical and topographical research, especially about the military frontier zones and fortified towns that had been a part of Croatian life for centuries.
