Biography

Regé-Jean Page is a British-Zimbabwean actor born in London in 1988. He spent part of his childhood in Zimbabwe before returning to the UK for his education and acting career. He trained at several respected institutions, such as the Identity School of Acting, the National Youth Theatre, St Ignatius College, and Drama Centre London, where he built a solid foundation in theater before moving to screen work.

Page started his professional acting career with TV appearances in British shows, gaining early recognition with a recurring role in the BBC One school drama Waterloo Road in 2015. He later moved into American television with a role in the History Channel miniseries Roots in 2016, a remake of the landmark 1977 production based on Alex Haley's novel. He continued his work in American TV with a role in the ABC legal drama For the People, which aired from 2018 to 2019, created by Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers.

Page gained widespread international fame when he played Simon Basset, the Duke of Hastings, in the first season of Netflix's period drama Bridgerton, which premiered in December 2020. The show, based on Julia Quinn's romance novels and produced by Shondaland, became one of Netflix's most-watched series at the time. Page's performance as the brooding and charming duke earned him significant critical attention, a large global following, and a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination as part of the ensemble cast.

Despite the show's huge success, Page didn't return for Bridgerton's second season, with his departure confirmed in April 2021. He then took on several high-profile film projects. He appeared in the action thriller The Gray Man in 2022, directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, starring alongside Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans. In 2023, he played a leading role in the fantasy adventure film Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves as the heroic paladin Xenk Yendar. He also appeared in the spy film Black Bag in 2025, directed by Steven Soderbergh.

Page is now recognized as one of the leading British actors of his generation, moving smoothly between television and major studio films. His work spans period dramas, action, fantasy, and thrillers, showing a wide range in his career choices since his breakthrough role.

Before Fame

Regé-Jean Page was born in London in 1988 to a British father and a Zimbabwean mother. He spent much of his childhood in Zimbabwe before his family moved back to the UK. This bicultural upbringing influenced his identity and has become an important part of his public image as a British-Zimbabwean actor in an industry that values representation and heritage more than ever.

He began his acting journey with thorough training at several institutions, including the National Youth Theatre, which has been the starting point for many well-known British actors, and Drama Centre London, famous for its rigorous method-based approach. This training provided Page with the technical skills he needed to transition from stage work to the competitive British and American television scene, where he gradually built his profile before his big break came.
