Sophie Charlene Akland Monk was born on December 14, 1979, in London, England, and later moved to Australia where she attended MacGregor State High School. Her entertainment career kicked off when she auditioned for the first season of Popstars Australia in 2000, leading to her selection as a member of the pop girl group Bardot. The group quickly found success, winning the show and releasing hit singles that topped the Australian charts.
