The 1975 Formula One season concluded at Watkins Glen with Niki Lauda already crowned world champion. Emerson Fittipaldi and Carlos Reutemann were locked in a half-season battle for the runner-up position, while Fittipaldi's McLaren team trailed Ferrari and Brabham in the Constructors' Championship.
On October 5, 1975, Niki Lauda drove his Ferrari 312T to victory at the Watkins Glen Grand Prix Race Course, finishing four seconds ahead of Emerson Fittipaldi's McLaren M23. Jochen Mass, Fittipaldi's West German teammate, completed the podium in third place.
Fittipaldi's second-place finish secured him the runner-up position in the Drivers' Championship ahead of Reutemann. McLaren, however, fell one point short of overtaking Brabham for second in the Constructors' Championship, leaving Ferrari as dominant constructors' champion for the season.
