UEFA organised the 1993–94 UEFA Cup as the 23rd edition of its secondary club competition, still operating under the 64-team format inherited from the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup since 1968. The tournament brought together clubs from across Europe, including Inter Milan and Austria Salzburg, who progressed through the rounds to reach the two-legged final.
Inter Milan defeated Austria Salzburg over two legs — played at the Ernst-Happel Stadion in Vienna and San Siro in Milan — with an aggregate scoreline of 2–0, claiming their second UEFA Cup title in four years. It marked the only time an Austrian club reached the UEFA Cup or UEFA Europa League final.
This edition was the last to use the classic 64-team format, after which the competition expanded to accommodate new European nations and changes to the UEFA Champions League structure. Inter Milan's title also set a record at the time for the lowest league finish by a European Cup-winning side, as the club finished 13th in Serie A that season.
