The International Cricket Council organised the ninth Cricket World Cup, held in the West Indies across eight host nations. Sixteen teams competed, including associate members Ireland and Canada, with pre-tournament attention focused on powerhouses India, Pakistan, Australia, and Sri Lanka.
The 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup ran from 13 March to 28 April 2007, featuring 51 matches. Teams were divided into four groups before progressing to a Super 8 round. Australia defeated Sri Lanka in the final, completing a third successive World Cup title, while India and Pakistan suffered shock group-stage exits to Bangladesh and Ireland respectively.
Australia extended their unbeaten World Cup streak to 29 matches, dating back to 1999. Ireland became only the second associate nation to advance past the first round. Pakistan coach Bob Woolmer died the day after his team's elimination under initially suspicious circumstances, though an open verdict was later returned. The ICC distributed US$239 million in surplus revenues to member nations.
