FIFA organised its annual Club World Cup in Japan, bringing together champions from each of the six continental confederations. Defending champions Internacional were absent, having been eliminated in the second stage of the 2007 Copa Libertadores and thus failing to qualify for the tournament.
The 2007 FIFA Club World Cup was held in Japan from 7 to 16 December 2007. Seven clubs competed across the tournament, culminating in a final between Italian side Milan and Argentine club Boca Juniors. Milan won the match 4–2 to claim the title.
Milan became the first European team to win the FIFA Club World Cup. The victory gave the Italian club 18 official international trophies, making them at that point the most decorated club in the world by that measure.
