Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid, both from the Spanish capital, advanced through the 2013–14 UEFA Champions League to set up the first ever all-Madrid final, also the second all-Spanish final in the competition's history, contested at the Estádio da Luz in Lisbon on 24 May 2014.
Atlético Madrid led through a Diego Godín first-half goal until Sergio Ramos headed an equaliser in the 93rd minute to force extra time. Real Madrid then scored three more goals through Gareth Bale, Marcelo, and Cristiano Ronaldo to win 4–1, securing their record tenth European title — La Décima — 12 years after their ninth.
As European champions, Real Madrid qualified for and won the 2014 UEFA Super Cup against Sevilla and the 2014 FIFA Club World Cup as UEFA's representative. The final is widely regarded by media as one of the greatest in Champions League history.
