Following the 2016 legislative elections in Kazakhstan, the Assembly of People of Kazakhstan (QHA) was required to fill nine reserved seats in the Mazhilis, the lower house of parliament, prompting the convening of an extraordinary session.
On 21 March 2016, 372 of 446 QHA members gathered at the Palace of Peace and Reconciliation in Astana to vote on nine nominees. All nine were elected: Sauytbek Adrahmanov, Vladimir Bozhko, Natalya Zhumadildaeva, Roman Kim, Narine Mikaelyan, Akhmed Muradov, Shaimardan Nurumov, Yuriy Tymoshenko, and Shakir Khakhazov.
The nine newly elected QHA members assumed their Mazhilis seats on 25 March 2016, marking the opening of the 6th Parliament of Kazakhstan and completing the post-election composition of the legislature's lower chamber.
