Following controversy and a boycott that caused NBC to drop the 2022 broadcast, the HFPA undertook reforms to restore credibility. The 80th ceremony represented a return to NBC, though it would be the last under the HFPA banner before the organization was dissolved and rebranded as the Golden Globe Foundation in June 2023.
On January 10, 2023, comedian Jerrod Carmichael hosted the 80th Golden Globe Awards at The Beverly Hilton. The ceremony honored the best in film and American television of 2022, with The Banshees of Inisherin leading all films with eight nominations. Eddie Murphy and Ryan Murphy received the Cecil B. DeMille Award and Carol Burnett Award, respectively.
The Banshees of Inisherin and Abbott Elementary each took home three awards, sharing the night's top honors. The ceremony gained added historical weight when Lisa Marie Presley, who attended as a guest, died two days later on January 12, making it her final public appearance. The HFPA subsequently rebranded as the Golden Globe Foundation later that year.
