Sweden's Loreen won the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest with 'Euphoria,' granting Swedish broadcaster SVT the right and responsibility to host the following year's contest. SVT selected Malmö Arena as the venue and Petra Mede as the sole host presenter, the first single host since 1995.
The Eurovision Song Contest 2013 took place at Malmö Arena on 14, 16, and 18 May 2013, featuring 39 competing countries. Denmark's Emmelie de Forest performed 'Only Teardrops,' which topped both the televote and jury vote to claim victory. The contest also reintroduced the Parade of Nations, in which all finalists walked across a bridge over the audience carrying national flags before the show began.
Denmark secured its third Eurovision victory, and the revived Parade of Nations format was retained in all subsequent editions of the contest. Turkey and Slovakia, which withdrew from the 2013 contest, have not returned since. The event reached an audience of 170 million viewers across the semi-finals and final.
