Cause

Following the inaugural Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2003, the European Broadcasting Union and host broadcaster NRK organised the second edition of the contest. France and Switzerland joined as new participants, bringing the total to eighteen competing countries, with the event broadcast across twenty nations.

Event

The contest was held on 20 November 2004 at Håkons Hall in Lillehammer, Norway, hosted by Stian Barsnes Simonsen and Nadia Hasnaoui. Spain won with "Antes muerta que sencilla," performed by 9-year-old María Isabel. The same three countries — Spain, the United Kingdom, and Croatia — occupied the top three positions as in 2003, though in a different order.

Consequence

Spain's victory propelled María Isabel to chart success not only in Spain but also in France, Italy, Scandinavia, and Latin America. She went on to release further albums, becoming one of the most successful Junior Eurovision winners. The contest continued to grow in viewership, drawing approximately 100 million viewers in this edition.
