Cause

Poland won the 2019 Junior Eurovision Song Contest with Viki Gabor's "Superhero," earning the right to host the 2020 edition. The COVID-19 pandemic and its travel restrictions reduced participation to 12 countries, the fewest since 2013, and forced competing performances to be pre-recorded remotely under EBU supervision.

Event

The 18th Junior Eurovision Song Contest was held on 29 November 2020 at TVP headquarters in Warsaw, Poland, hosted by Ida Nowakowska, Małgorzata Tomaszewska, and Rafał Brzozowski. Twelve countries competed, with Germany debuting. France's Valentina performed "J'imagine," and competing artists followed the live event from their home countries.

Consequence

France claimed its first Junior Eurovision victory and its first win at any Eurovision event since Eurovision Young Dancers 1989. Kazakhstan and Spain again placed second and third, respectively, while Germany finished last in its debut. The contest also marked the first time the same country hosted in consecutive years.
