Biography
Anahí Giovanna Puente Portilla, known by her first name Anahí, was born on May 14, 1983, in Mexico City. She is a Mexican singer, songwriter, and actress who gained international fame through her work in TV, music, and film. Her career began impressively at the age of three when she was cast in the children's show Chiquilladas in 1986, kicking off a long career in entertainment across different platforms and regions.
In the 1990s and early 2000s, Anahí became a well-known figure in Mexican television with roles in many popular Televisa telenovelas. Some of her notable works from this time are Alondra (1995), Vivo por Elena (1998), El Diario de Daniela (1998), and Mujeres Engañadas (1999). She landed her first leading TV role in 2000 in Pedro Damián's production Primer Amor... A Mil por Hora and later appeared in Clase 406 in 2003. However, her role in the telenovela Rebelde in 2004 made her an international star and changed her career trajectory.
The success of Rebelde led to the creation of RBD, a pop group made up of the show's main cast members. As part of RBD, Anahí enjoyed massive worldwide success, with the group selling over 15 million records and earning two Latin Grammy Award nominations. The group's fame spread beyond Mexico to fans across Latin America, the United States, and Europe. After RBD split up, Anahí returned to TV for her last telenovela to date, Dos Hogares, in 2011.
Alongside acting, Anahí pursued a solo music career from a young age. She released her first album, a self-titled debut, in 1993 at age 10, followed by other albums like ¿Hoy Es Mañana? (1996), Anclado en Mi Corazón (1997), and Baby Blue (2000). After RBD, her solo career soared with Mi Delirio in 2009, which sold 500,000 copies globally and debuted at number two on Billboard's Latin Pop Albums chart. The Mi Delirio World Tour was the seventh most profitable tour of 2010 according to Billboard. Her 2016 album Inesperado continued her musical growth, featuring the hit "Rumba" with reggaeton artist Wisin, which topped Billboard's Tropical Songs chart. Throughout her solo career, she has sold over five million albums globally, making her the top-selling former RBD member. She is married to Manuel Velasco Coello.
Before Fame
Anahí's journey in entertainment started in her early childhood in Mexico City, during a time when television programming was expanding and Latin American pop culture was gaining international attention. She entered the industry at the age of three with the children's show Chiquilladas, giving her plenty of on-camera experience from a very young age.
In the 1980s and 1990s, Mexican entertainment was largely dominated by Televisa's production of telenovelas, and Mexican TV content was increasingly being exported to other Spanish-speaking countries. This environment gave young talents like Anahí the chance to hone their skills while the industry expanded internationally, paving the way for the global success she would eventually enjoy.
