Biography

Bakhodir Isomiddin oʻgʻli Jalolov was born on July 8, 1994, in the Sariosiyo District of Uzbekistan. He competes in the super heavyweight division for boxers over 91 kilograms and is one of the most dominant amateur and professional boxers of his generation. Jalolov has received The Pride of Uzbekistan, a notable civilian honor, which shows the importance of his athletic achievements to his country.

Jalolov first gained international attention at the 2015 World Amateur Boxing Championships, winning a bronze medal. This early success showed his potential on the world stage and laid the groundwork for an impressive series of titles. He competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro and was Uzbekistan's flag bearer during the opening ceremony, highlighting his country's high regard for him even before his most famous victories.

His career reached new heights at the 2019 World Championships, where he won the gold medal in the super heavyweight category. The next year, at the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics, held in 2021 because of the global pandemic, Jalolov won the Olympic gold medal, marking a pinnacle in amateur boxing. He once again carried Uzbekistan's flag at the opening ceremony, making him one of the few athletes to be a flag bearer at two consecutive Olympic Games.

Jalolov maintained his remarkable performance into the next Olympic cycle. At the 2023 World Championships, he successfully defended his world title, reaffirming his position as the top super heavyweight boxer in the amateur ranks. His dominance continued at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, where he won his second consecutive Olympic gold medal, putting him among the elite heavyweight boxers in Olympic history. He then moved into professional boxing, bringing with him an amateur record that few fighters in any weight class have matched.

Before Fame

Jalolov grew up in Sariosiyo District, in the Surxondaryo province of southern Uzbekistan. Uzbekistan is known for its strong amateur boxing tradition, having produced many Olympic and world champions. The national sports program has heavily invested in identifying and training boxing talent from a young age. It was within this system that Jalolov began boxing, competing in regional and national events.

As he moved up through Uzbekistan's boxing ranks, his physical abilities and technical discipline caught the attention of national coaches. By the mid-2010s, he reached the senior international level, combining power, reach, and smart strategy, making him tough to beat in top amateur competitions. Winning a bronze medal at the 2015 World Championships marked his place among the world's top super heavyweights.
