Biography

DeAndre Roselle Yedlin was born on July 9, 1993, in Seattle, Washington. He is an American soccer player who mainly plays as a right-back but has also taken on roles as a right wing-back and wide midfielder. Known for his speed and athleticism, Yedlin became one of the most recognizable American defenders of his time, gaining significant experience in both U.S. and European soccer.

Yedlin started his professional career with the Seattle Sounders FC after he was selected in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft. His performances in Major League Soccer quickly caught the eye of European clubs, and in 2014 he moved to English Premier League team Tottenham Hotspur. While he didn't have many opportunities at Spurs, he gained important top-flight experience through loan spells at Sunderland, and later made a permanent move to Newcastle United in 2016, where he became a regular starter and a fan favorite at St. James' Park.

His time at Newcastle United was the highlight of his European career. Yedlin played over 100 games for the club in all competitions, consistently providing energy on the right side. He was part of the team that got promoted from the Championship back to the Premier League in 2017. After leaving Newcastle in 2020, he joined Galatasaray in Turkey before returning to MLS with Inter Miami CF in 2021. He later moved to Real Salt Lake, continuing in the league where he started.

On the international front, Yedlin has been a regular for the United States men's national team, earning his first cap in 2014. He played in several CONCACAF Gold Cup tournaments and was part of the U.S. squad that qualified for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, showcasing his skills on one of the sport's biggest stages. His speed and defensive abilities made him a reliable choice for national team managers over more than ten years of international play.

Yedlin's career shows the growth of American soccer in the 21st century, as more players from the U.S. started competing at high levels in European clubs. His ability to perform in the English Premier League and Championship opened doors for greater recognition of American players abroad.
