Biography
Dzinara Smolskaya, originally Dzinara Talhatauna Alimbekava, was born on January 5, 1996, in Abay, Kazakhstan. She is a Belarusian biathlete who competes internationally in events that combine cross-country skiing and rifle shooting. Her father is Kazakh, and her mother is Belarusian. At three years old, her family moved to Belarus. She and her younger brother Zhenya grew up there, and it was in Belarus that she built her career in biathlon, a challenging sport that mixes endurance from skiing with precise shooting.
Smolskaya gained international attention at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea, when she was part of the Belarusian team that won gold in the 4×6 km relay. This success was a key moment in her career, putting her on the global stage as one of Belarus's top biathletes. She kept improving over the next few seasons, getting faster on skis and more accurate in shooting to compete consistently at the highest level.
Her individual World Cup win came in December 2020 in a sprint race in Hochfilzen, Austria. This win showed she was not only a strong team player but also a serious individual competitor. Dzinara Smolskaya was born in Abay, Kazakhstan, to parents with Kazakh and Belarusian backgrounds. When she was three, her family decided to move to Belarus, where she would build her athletic and national identity. Growing up there, she discovered biathlon, a sport that fit well with the country's strong tradition in winter sports and coaching support.
From a young age, Smolskaya showed both physical talent and the focus needed to excel in a sport that requires mastering two different skills.
