Famke Beumer Janssen was born on 5 November 1964 in Amstelveen, Netherlands. She began her career as a fashion model before transitioning to acting, eventually studying at Columbia University in New York City. Her combination of striking physical presence and formal academic training helped distinguish her in an industry where few models successfully made the leap to sustained dramatic work.
