Biography
Hannibal Mejbri, known simply as Hannibal, was born on January 21, 2003, in Ivry-sur-Seine, France, to Tunisian parents. He is a midfielder who has played for several top clubs in England and Europe. Although he played for France's youth teams, he chose to play for Tunisia at the senior level, debuting for them in 2021.
Hannibal gained attention after joining the Clairefontaine academy in France, a training ground for many great footballers. His performances there caught the eye of major European clubs, leading to his move to Manchester United's youth system in 2019 after a stint with Monaco. He quickly progressed at Old Trafford, making his senior debut for Manchester United in a Premier League match in May 2021, proving himself as a skilled and competitive midfielder.
In search of regular first-team action, Hannibal went on loan to Birmingham City in the EFL Championship for the 2022–23 season. He became a regular in Birmingham's midfield and scored his first senior goal during that time. The loan spell was seen as a positive move, giving him the playing time he needed to grow at the senior level.
In 2024, Manchester United arranged a loan for Hannibal to play with Sevilla in Spain's top league, La Liga, giving him experience in a new tactical and cultural setting. Later that year, he joined Burnley in the EFL Championship, either on loan or permanently, helping them earn promotion to the Premier League at the end of the 2024–25 season. His performances at Burnley solidified his reputation as a lively and talented central midfielder.
Internationally, Hannibal played for France's under-16 and under-17 teams before deciding to commit to Tunisia for his senior career, honoring his heritage. He debuted for Tunisia in 2021 and remains involved with their national team. His choice highlights his dual cultural background, making him a prominent figure in both North African and French football communities.
