Biography

Givanildo Vieira de Sousa, better known as Hulk, was born on July 25, 1986, in Campina Grande, Brazil. A Brazilian professional footballer and striker, he now plays for Atlético Mineiro in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A. His strength and exceptional shooting skill have made him one of Brazil's most recognizable forwards over the last 15 years.

Hulk started his career with Vitória before spending three years in Japan, which broadened his views on football. He truly made a name for himself in Portugal with Porto, where he had several very successful seasons. At Porto, he won ten titles, including the 2010–11 UEFA Europa League and three national championships. His outstanding performances led to him being named the Portuguese league's top scorer, and he cemented his reputation as one of Europe's top attacking players.

In 2012, Hulk moved to Russian Premier League team Zenit Saint Petersburg for €60 million, showing how much his reputation had grown in world football. His time in Russia was highly successful, winning all three available domestic honors. He was recognized as the league's best player and top scorer at different times, showing how consistent he was at the highest level.

In 2016, Hulk made another big move when he joined Shanghai SIPG for an Asian record fee of €58.6 million. This move underscored the rising profile of Chinese football and marked him as one of the top players to join the Chinese Super League during its expansion phase.

On the international front, Hulk debuted for Brazil in 2009 and became a key part of the national team. He played in the 2012 Summer Olympics as one of three allowed over-age players, helping Brazil in their campaign. His international career also saw him play in Brazil's victorious 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup team and their fourth-place finish at the 2014 FIFA World Cup at home. FIFA's official website describes him as "a direct powerhouse of a centre- or wide-forward who knows his way around the box," emphasizing his versatility and goal-scoring ability.

Before Fame

Hulk grew up in Campina Grande, a city in the Brazilian state of Paraíba, and this set the stage for his football journey. His unique nickname came from his father, who loved the 1970s Incredible Hulk TV show starring Lou Ferrigno. He kicked off his professional career at Vitória, then made a daring move to Japan for three years. This early stint abroad was key in shaping his adaptability and view of football, setting him up for a successful career in Europe.
