Biography

Kajol Devgan, known simply as Kajol, is an Indian actress born on August 5, 1975, in Mumbai and is one of the most acclaimed performers in Hindi cinema. Her parents are actress Tanuja and filmmaker Shomu Mukherjee, and she comes from a well-known film family, which gave her an early start in the entertainment world. Although she attended Mithibai College, she left her studies to pursue acting, debuting in Bekhudi in 1992 during her school years. She quickly found success with movies like Baazigar and Yeh Dillagi, making her a promising talent in Bollywood. Kajol's big break came with her roles in the iconic romantic films Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge in 1995 and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai in 1998. These films not only became huge hits but also established her as one of the top actresses of her time. She showed her range by playing a psychopathic killer in Gupt: The Hidden Truth, winning the Filmfare Award for Best Performance in a Negative Role in 1998. After her success in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham in 2001, Kajol took a break from acting to focus on her family life after marrying actor and filmmaker Ajay Devgn. Even during her selective career period, she impressed audiences with movies like Fanaa in 2006 and My Name Is Khan in 2010, both of which earned her Filmfare Awards for Best Actress. Recently, she has ventured into digital platforms with projects like Tribhanga, The Trial, and Do Patti, showing her ability to adapt to new entertainment mediums. Throughout her career, Kajol has been recognized for her acting skills and her social activism, especially her work with widows and children, which earned her the Padma Shri award in 2011.

Before Fame

Kajol was born into a family with strong ties to the Indian film industry. Her mother, Tanuja, was a well-known actress, and her father, Shomu Mukherjee, was a filmmaker, which exposed her to cinema from a young age.
