Biography
Lorine Zineb Nora Talhaoui, known as Loreen, was born on October 16, 1983, in Danderyd, Sweden. She is of Moroccan Berber heritage and grew up in Sweden, where she developed a passion for music and performance early on. She gained national attention in 2004 by finishing fourth in the Swedish edition of Idol, showcasing her vocal talent to a wide audience. In 2005, she released her debut single, 'The Snake', with the band Rob'n'Raz, beginning a career that would include music, television, and acting.
After Idol, Loreen moved into television, presenting on TV400 and working behind the scenes as a segment producer and director on several Swedish reality TV shows. This period showed her versatility beyond just performing, giving her a good understanding of the entertainment industry. She returned to performing in Melodifestivalen 2011 with the song 'My Heart Is Refusing Me', which reached the top ten in Sweden, reestablishing her music career.
Loreen represented Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku, Azerbaijan, with the song 'Euphoria'. The performance received praise for its atmospheric production and Loreen's strong stage presence, leading her to win the contest by a large margin. 'Euphoria' became an international hit, earning her the MTV Europe Music Award for Best Swedish Act in 2012. The song's success made her one of the standout voices in European pop music at the time. She followed this with singles like 'Crying Out Your Name' in 2012 and 'Statements' in 2017, both reaching Sweden's top twenty.
Over a decade after her first Eurovision win, Loreen returned to Melodifestivalen and represented Sweden again at the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 in Liverpool, UK. She sang 'Tattoo' and won the contest for the second time, becoming the second performer after Irish singer Johnny Logan to win Eurovision twice, and the first woman to do so. This victory brought her renewed international attention and highlighted her lasting impact on European pop music. In the same year, she received the NRJ Music Award for International Revelation of the Year, highlighting her global comeback.
Throughout her career, Loreen has worked as a singer, actor, television presenter, and voice actor, playing a significant role in Swedish culture. Her ability to maintain public and critical recognition for nearly two decades, while continuously evolving her art, makes her one of Sweden's most notable contemporary entertainers.
Before Fame
Loreen was born in Danderyd, just north of Stockholm, in 1983. Growing up in Sweden with Moroccan Berber roots, she was interested in music from a young age. She gained her first major public attention in 2004 by competing in Idol, the Swedish version of the popular singing contest, finishing in fourth place. Although she didn't win, the show gave her national exposure and a starting point for a career in music.
After Idol, Loreen released her first single and got involved in TV, both in front of the camera and behind the scenes. Instead of following the usual path of a pop star, she took her time to build skills in different parts of the entertainment industry.
