Biography
Magnús Örn Eyjólfsson Scheving was born on November 10, 1964, in Borgarnes, Iceland. Early in life, he developed a love for athletics and fitness, themes central to his career. After studying at the University of Iceland, Scheving achieved great success in competitive aerobic gymnastics, becoming a two-time European champion and winning silver and bronze medals at World Championships. In 1994, he was named Icelandic Sportsperson of the Year.
After his sports career, Scheving moved into entertainment and entrepreneurship, aiming to promote healthy living among children. He created LazyTown, a children's TV series combining live-action, puppetry, and CGI, to convey messages about exercise, healthy eating, and positive lifestyle choices. The show premiered in 2004 and became a global hit, broadcast in over 100 countries and translated into many languages.
In LazyTown, Scheving played Sportacus, a superhero encouraging activity and healthy habits against the influence of Robbie Rotten. Besides acting, Scheving was the show's creator, producer, and director, ensuring it stayed true to its educational goals. His character was famous for performing acrobatic stunts and promoting 'sports candy,' which were fruits and vegetables for natural energy.
Scheving also worked in film production and screenwriting, setting up his production company in Iceland to create more content in line with his advocacy for health and fitness. His marriage to Ragnheiður Melsteð provided personal support as he developed his entertainment ventures.
