Biography

Najla Bouden Romdhane was born on June 29, 1958, in Kairouan, a city in central Tunisia. She studied geology and earned advanced degrees at Mines ParisTech, a top engineering school in France. Her education set the stage for a career in university teaching, international development, and eventually, top government leadership.

Before Fame

Growing up in Kairouan after Tunisia gained independence, Bouden experienced a time when the country was heavily investing in public education and technical skills to boost national growth. She chose to study geology and went for further studies at Mines ParisTech, joining a group of Tunisian scholars who pursued advanced scientific qualifications overseas and then returned to work in local institutions.
